ST△GG is a Scottish Nu-Folk Artist who grew up in Scotland’s vibrant traditional music scene and has since embraced influences gathered through years of travel, performance and creative exploration.
Performing from a young age he also benefited from learning alongside and from some of the leading musicians in the Scottish traditional music scene, including at Plockton Music School.
After moving South for work after uni, leaving Scotland for the first time, he turned to the singer-songwriter open mic scene in Winchester and began singing and writing songs. He then spent two years travelling through Canada, the United States and Mexico as a street musician, connecting with local music scenes, artists, audiences and ways of life.
ST∆GG is multi-disciplinary and hands-on in his approach. From organizing a tour of Scotland, bringing along 3 other artists to complete the line-up, to screen printing on second hand clothes and making zines, to producing video shoots and his own music.
He has always taken part in the local grass-roots music and gigging scene of wherever he has lived, but has also played at festivals including Celtic Connections, the Edinburgh Fringe and Lightning in a Bottle.
ST∆GG has a string of releases to his name, starting with his 2019 EP, Winter Nights, recorded between Glasgow and London with a mixture of collaborators and self-production.
3.0 (three-point-zero) is a live visual album featuring 9 songs, filmed live in his room during lockdown in 2020, and combined with hand-drawn graphics, marking a coming together of his music with visual art.
This continued with TRIO in 2022, a live visual EP, which also featured a trio of musicians and a handful of production collaborators.
2026 marks a new chapter starting with IMBOLC, a song written for the Celtic festival that celebrates the first stirrings of life in the ground, mid-way between the winter solstice and the spring equinox. Among other things, it’s a song about swapping phone screens for candlelight.
“It is a rare and beautiful thing when a musician surprises you… an artist utterly in tune with their instrument, unafraid to find new ground, and, most importantly, with something to say to the world.”
